To Gettysburg by Train: The Gettysburg & Harrisburg Rr Co

Powell is a geniusOK pretty close to it--I'm his sister so I cant really get away with that, but I ought to know--he can be dry and a bit
windy at times, but he's spirited like a right jolly old elf with
a fine mastery of American Civil War history. It didnt hurt
growing up with a brother like Chippie (we nick named him) to teach you to appreciate the morals and structures that
our nation was based upon as well as to develop your sense of curiousity about war and to appreciate the men who gave their lives for this nation. All of his books are great! and Chip,if you're checking this out, I didnt REALLY intentionally mean to embarrass you! :) love, Melanie

Westsylvania Heritage Trail: A Guide to Southwest Pennsylvania's Historic Places (Insights (Harrisburg, Pa.).)
Published in Paperback by Rb Books (May, 2001)
Average review score:

Great guide to western PAI first found this book at my library, and was amazed at how many locations it covers! I was born in western PA, and grew up in central PA, but there were some intruiging places in this guide that I'd never heard of before. If you are a history buff and have a nice, lazy weekend to spend following the "history trail" as laid in this book - do it! What a nice way to fall in love with PA all over again. It'd be twice as nice to do in the fall when the leaves are changing. I logged on to Amazon.com today expressly in the hopes of ordering this book - I can't recommend it enough and am looking forward to taking it with me on regional trips in the future.

The Warning: Accident at Three Mile Island
Published in Paperback by NTC/Contemporary Publishing (March, 1983)
Average review score:

Surprisingly good mix of technical detail and storytellingAs someone who works at a Nuclear plant, I've had much training on the accident at TMI in much greater detail than provided in this book (although, Gray does do a decent job at explaining how operators responded to that paricular event...he does leave out a lot, however). The best thing about this, for me, was his obvious research with regard to other facilities that had the same problem prior to TMI and the lack of a Nuclear network to help get the word out (we have an extensive network of information sharing now). The character descriptions are excellent and the story does flow like a novel...get this book (if you can find it...it's been out of print for a while) if you want a reasonably close explanation of what occured at TMI, but get it more for the story and the background information.
Couldn't put it downVery intriguing book about the near disaster at Three Mile Island. Very well written, it keeps you spellbound to the very last period. It explains what went wrong with excellent detail. Enough information to keep you spellbound, but not enough to bore you with unnecessary details. A very well written book. A must if you want to learn the true story about Three Mile Island.
